If there is any South African who does not know this plant I haven’t met them yet.
The name translates from the Afrikaans into English as Red Bush, and it is unusually the bark shavings from the bush that are used for the infusion. It has been found that the bark contains the medicinal value, that being the exceptionally high anti-oxidant levels good for immunity. The South Africans also use the drink for hydrating their infants and small children.
